Gabby Barrett said husband Cade Foehner was “very shy” during the couple’s first interaction with one another as contestants on American Idol.
The two artists competed on the 16th season of the show in 2018. Barrett finished third place in the competition, and Foehner was eliminated in the Top 5 episode. They got engaged and married the following year. Now, the couple share three children together: daughter Baylah May, born in January 2021, son Augustine Boone, born in October 2022, and daughter Ivy Josephine, born in February 2024.
Barrett, 25, and Foehner, 29, recently appeared as guests on The JInger & Jeremy Podcast, hosted by married duo Jinger Duggar Vuolo and Jeremy Vuolo. Together, the group talked about what Barrett and Foehner remember from their American Idol days (including the beginning of their relationship), Barrett’s mega-hit single “I Hope,” balancing a meteoric professional rise while also starting a family, why their faith is so important to them, and more.
“I had to go chase him,” Barrett said of meeting her husband on American Idol. “He was a hard one to get to.”
Foehner said he first noticed Barrett (and complimented her ponytail) during the show’s Hollywood week; however, the “The Easy Part” singer said “we really started to notice each other during the Top 24.”
“He does not remember this at all,” Barrett said. “I came up to him backstage and was like, ‘you did a great job!’ And he said ‘thank you,’ you know, very shy and reserved. …I’m not kidding. He doesn’t remember.”
