Reports: Big Ten cancels fall football season

After a weekend that saw one Football Bowl Subdivision conference, the MAC, cancel its fall sports season, Monday saw reports of a Power 5 conference joining the MAC in cancelling its fall sports season.

The Big Ten has apparently voted 12-2 to cancel football this fall, instead hoping it will be viable in the spring. The voting was reported by Dan Patrick of The Dan Patrick Show on his national show Monday, who revealed that Iowa and Nebraska were the only two colleges in the Big Ten to vote to continue to play this fall.

Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reported later Monday morning that indeed the Big Ten was going to cancel football this fall and hoped that other conferences would look to try football in the spring.

Wisconsin was among the 12 colleges to vote to cancel football this fall and attempt a spring schedule.

Last week the Big Ten announced a modified fall schedule, with 10 games against in-conference opponents.
