Sean Connery Dead At Age 90

Legendary actor Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. The Oscar-winner stands as many film fans' favorite portrayer of "James Bond," but during his over 40 year career, he also had hit roles in films like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Untouchables and The Man Who Would Be King.

According to the BBC, Connery died in his sleep while in the Bahamas.

His storied career began in 1956, when he worked as a model and took on small roles on TV. His first film role was also that year in a B crime movie called No Road Back. He took parts in other flicks but it wasn't until 1962's Dr. No, the first "James Bond" film, that he became an international celebrity. His roles in the sequels cemented his position on Hollywood's A-list and he won the Oscar for his portrayal of a tough cop in 1987's The Untouchables.

In the early '90s, the Scottish-born Connery was diagnosed with throat cancer but overcame it and went on to star opposite Nicolas Cage in The Rock. Even in his late 60's, Connery's star continued to rise. In 1999, People magazine named him the "Sexiest Man of the Century," and that same year he starred in the hit film Entrapment opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones.

He later starred in Finding Forrester and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. He was given the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 and while accepting it, he confirmed that he was retiring from acting. While he did some voice work, including voicing the title character in 2010's Sir Billi, he no longer appeared on the silver screen.

Connery is survived by his wife of 45 years, painter Micheline Roquebrune, his son, actor Jason Connery, and his grandson.
