Carrie Underwood Returns To 'American Idol' For 'Southbound' Performance

Carrie Underwood returned to her stomping grounds on Sunday night (May 19) when she performed on the Season 17 three-hour finale of American Idol.

After performances from all three of the finale's top contestants (Laine Hardy, Madison VanDenburg and Alejandro Aranda), the Idol alum took her new single, "Southbound," to the Hollywood stage, offering the audiences with some extra glitz, glam and flashy pyrotechnics for the number. At one point in her performance, she strutted down the catwalk and brought Katy Perry to her feat for a quick two-step to the summertime track. Underwood knows all too well about the pressure that comes with an Idol finale and reflected a bit about winning Season 4 in 2005. "Horrified, scared, nervous, all of the above," she told host Ryan Seacrest. "I can only imagine what the contestants are going through. No, I can imagine! I was there!"

If you liked what you saw of Underwood, you can catch the singer on her current "Cry Pretty Tour 360," which launched in Greensboro in early May. The trek is scheduled to make its way throughout North America and select countries in Europe until early July. From there, Underwood will take a brief break before picking things up in mid-September and wrapping in late October.

"Our first day of the 'Storyteller Tour,' my son Isaiah walked for the first time," Underwood recently told ET of spending time with her family on the 55-date tour. "Now he's four and we're on the 'Cry Pretty Tour.' I just know we're gonna have many more milestones with him and with Jacob, who is three months old."
