This week on The McCarthy report, Tim McCarthy will be investigating the effects of aging on Americans.

The segment will air on Saturday, June 14th at 7pm and on Sunday, June 15th at 7:30 and 11:30am.

The first guest speaker will be Tom Lorenz, owner of a company called BeHome4Ever that provides senior care and technology consulting for the aging. He will be discussing falls - what a fall is, when falls are most likely to occur, and how to prevent our older loved ones, and everyone, from taking a fall.

Falls are a serious public health problem among older adults. In the United States alone, one out of every three people 65 years or older falls each year. Older adults are hospitalized for fall-related injuries five times more often than they are for injuries from other causes. Of those who fall, 20-30% suffer moderate to severe injuries that reduce mobility and independence, and increase the risk of premature death.

Another guest will be Dr. Ethelle Lord, the president of the International Caregivers Association. She will be discussing ways to reduce the cost of dementia care; you can learn about a product to buy from the grocery store that’s been shown to reduce and even reverse dementia in some patients, and what caregivers can do for themselves to relieve their stress from caring for a person with dementia or Alzheimer’s.
